Environmental Engineer - Water - 00599 Description Stepan Company is a publicly traded, major international manufacturer of specialty and intermediate chemical products. Stepan owns and operates a wastewater treatment plant that contains primary and secondary wastewater treatment for its chemical manufacturing processes. The primary responsibility of the Environmental Engineer is to maintain compliance with the site’s National Pollution Discharge Elimination System Permit. Responsibilities include monitoring, reporting, recordkeeping, and providing technical support to the wastewater treatment plant operator, engineering, and operations.
Responsibilities Include: · Provide technical support for the entire Stepan Facility pertaining to wastewater, drinking water quality, sludge management, storm water pollution prevention, and spill control. · Collect wastewater, sludge, and drinking water samples and submit data to regulatory agencies. · Develop, update, and implement Storm Water Pollution Prevention and Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure Plans. · Develop and implement environmental management systems. · Work with wastewater treatment plant operator to monitor and maintain the wastewater treatment process and equipment. · Submit compliance reports accurately and in a timely manner. · Maintain accurate compliance records. · Lead and participate in meetings, environmental audits, and trainings for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information. · Respond as needed to emergency situations during or after hours. · Recommend capital expenditures to maintain compliance in the waste water treatment plant.
Qualifications The qualified candidate will have the following education, experience, skills and abilities: · BS degree in Engineering, Sciences, or Environmental Field. · Minimum of 3 years experience in an environmental compliance role. · Ability to maintain databases (Excel). · Demonstrated integrity. · Strong people skills and an ability to influence others. · Working knowledge of US and IL Environmental Regulations preferred.
