An estimated 300 CEE students and company representatives gathered in the Newmark Lab crane bay over pizza and soda Tuesday evening, September 14, for the first CEE After Hours. The new fall event is designed to give CEE students and company reps, most of them department alumni, an opportunity to mingle informally and make contact during the fall semester—contacts that often result in summer employment, internships and jobs after graduation.

CEE After Hours was initiated due to the overwhelming popularity of the department’s springtime job fair with students and recruiters alike. Many of the recruiters who attended are participants in the department’s new Corporate Partners Program, which offers companies more opportunities to connect with CEE students, faculty and alumni. Companies who support the department at various giving levels can select from a variety of options to create their own benefits packages. Additional benefits include a booth at the annual Professional Development Fair, company information sessions, advertisement in the CEE magazine, customized services and assistance from the department advancement staff, the opportunity to list openings on the CEE student blogs, and free access to the searchable, online resume database hosted by Engineering Career Services at Illinois.

Department events that provide access to students are among the most popular with company representatives. The Wall Street Journal recently ranked University of Illinois graduates third in the nation among recruiters.

The department would like to thank the following companies for participating in this inaugural CEE After Hours: AP Tech, CH2M Hill, Hayward Baker, HNTB, Turner, Walsh, and WJE.
