CEE at Illinois offers the No. 1 online civil engineering master’s degree program, according to U.S. News & World Report. The magazine ranked civil engineering specialty programs for the first time this year.

The CEE Online program offers master’s degrees in civil engineering (MSCE) and in environmental engineering (MSEE). The degrees are the same as those earned by on-campus enrollees. Students can choose classes and programs from all of the department’s areas of specialization. These include Construction Management, Energy-Water-Environment Sustainability, Geotechnical Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Societal Risk and Hazard Mitigation, Structural Engineering, Water Resources Engineering and Science and Railroad Engineering.

The program boasts 200 enrollments annually, with both domestic and international students included. There are 30 to 40 individual classes offered online each semester. Classes are recorded so that students can view them at their convenience. There are online labs and group projects. Classrooms were recently upgraded with new projectors, lecterns with touch-panel controls, and in-room microphones and cameras.

“CEE at Illinois is very honored to receive this No. 1 ranking for our online program and proud to be recognized as the leader in delivering online education in CEE,” said Jeffery Roesler, Associate Head for Graduate Affairs. “Our faculty have been providing high quality, technical classes in all areas of civil and environmental engineering to students on campus and professionals throughout the U.S. and around the world.”

Overall, The Grainger College of Engineering was ranked No. 9 in Best Online Master’s in Engineering Programs.
