Oden to Deliver Newmark Lecture on Dec 7

J. Tinsley Oden will deliver the 2009/2010 Newmark Distinguished Lecture on the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign campus Monday, Dec. 7, 4-5 p.m. in room 1320 of the Digital Computer Laboratory. 

Oden is Associate Vice President for Research, Director of the Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences, Professor of Math, and Professor of Aerospace and Engineering Mechanics at the University of Texas at Austin.  The title of his lecture is, “Validation, Prediction, and Error Control in Multiscale and Multiphysics Modeling: Foundational Issues in Modern Computational Science.”

The Nathan M. Newmark Distinguished Lecture series, hosted annually by CEE at Illinois, honors Nathan M. Newmark, a national leader in civil engineering education and research, and a prominent consulting engineer.  Newmark served on the faculty of the University of Illinois Civil Engineering department from 1930-1981, and as head of the department from 1956-1973.  He was chairman of the Digital Computer Laboratory from 1947-1957.
