Yan receives ASME Haythornthwaite Foundation Research Initiation Award

Assistant Professor Jinhui Yan has received the 2018 Haythornthwaite Foundation Research Initiation Award from American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). Selected by the executive committee of the Applied Mechanics Division (AMD) of ASME, the award is bestowed in recognition of excellence in theoretical and applied mechanics research. An award of $20,000 will be used by Yan in support of his research projects. The award was presented at the AMD Banquet at ASME’s International Mechanical Engineering Congress & Exposition in Pittsburgh on November 13, 2018.

Yan conducts research in the areas of computational mechanics and its broad applications in renewable energy and advanced manufacturing. He earned his Ph.D. (2016), M.S. (2012) and B.S. (2009) from University of California - San Diego, Peking University and Wuhan University, respectively. He joined the CEE at Illinois faculty in Fall 2018.
