The Illinois Department of Transportation is accepting applications for 87 engineering positions!  These positions are located throughout the state and feature a wide variety of job duties.  Information is available on the IDOT web site:

The Midwestern Association of Graduate Schools (MAGS) is soliciting nominations for the 2017 MAGS Distinguished Master’s Thesis Awards.  Awards will be made in two broad categories: 1) Social Sciences and 2) Mathematics, Physical Sciences, and Engineering.  To be considered, a thesis must contain original work that makes an unusually significant contribution to the discipline, and the thesis must have been deposited between July 1, 2014 and June 30, 2016.   

Departments may submit one nomination each for consideration in the campus competition, and nominations are due in the Graduate College by October 17, 2016.  Please note the dept deadline is October 14. Students who plan on having all degree requirements completed and will graduate in December 2016 should add themselves to the December degree conferral list by Oct 30 via Student Self-Service. Please contact your department with any questions or if you have problems adding yourself to the list via Self-Service.

Illinois GIS Day 2016

On November 15 join the University of Illinois and ILGISA in a celebration of GIS Day, the annual salute to geospatial technology and its power to transform and improve our lives. The event is FREE and features a map/poster competition with prizes awarded to the top three student entries. Several companies will participate in the late afternoon career connection session to speak about how GIS is used in their company, the skills they find valuable, and advice for students entering the job market. After their introductions stay to talk about current job openings and network. The event also includes a keynote address by the Founder and CEO of Urban GIS, practical GIS presentations, and lightning talk sessions to deliver GIS implementation strategies. Register by October 31 to receive a free lunch.
