Opportunity for students to develop effective presentation skills

To help students prepare for the Research Live! competition and to improve their communication and presentation skills generally, we are offering a special workshop next week.

Presented by Carol Symes—associate professor of History and Theatre and professional actor—“Acting for Academics” will train students in powerful acting techniques that can help them present their research more effectively. It will be useful for students getting ready for Research Live! (50% of the 2015 winners attended a preparation workshop) or for any research presentation, including conferences and seminars. The workshop will take place next Wednesday, October 12, from 3-5pm in Illini Union 314B.

As a reminder, the deadline to register for Research Live! is October 26. Now in its second year, Research Live! asks graduate students from all disciplines to hone their presentation skills and highlight their work by giving a compelling 3-minute, 2-slide talk for a general audience.
