El-Gohary receives 2017 Campus Distinguished Promotion Award

Nora El-Gohary has been promoted to Associate Professor, and received a 2017 Campus Distinguished Promotion Award from the Provost for scholarly contributions considered exceptional in terms of quality of work and overall achievement. During the promotion review process, the Campus Committee on Promotion and Tenure recommended El-Gohary to the Provost for this special recognition “based on the scope, quality and impact of [her] scholarship, teaching, service and engagement efforts.” Only eleven other scholars received this honor.

El-Gohary earned her bachelor’s (1999) and master’s (2002) degrees in construction engineering from the American University in Cairo, and her civil engineering Ph.D. (2008) from the University of Toronto. She served on the faculty of the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Manitoba before joining the CEE at Illinois faculty in 2009, where she teaches courses in construction engineering and management. She has research interests in information modeling and data analytics for supporting the development and management of sustainable and value-adding civil infrastructure systems.

El-Gohary is a CEE Excellence Faculty Fellow and has received several awards for research including Center of Advanced Study Fellow in 2015, National Science Foundation CAREER Award in 2013, and Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada Discovery Grant in 2009.
