Illinois Water Day is scheduled for Friday, April 11, from 2-6 p.m. in the M.T. Geoffrey Yeh Student Center in Newmark Civil Engineering Laboratory. It will feature a number of speakers, a poster session presenting research and other water-related work, as well as refreshments. This year’s theme, set by the United Nations and observed by both World Water Day and the local event, recognizes the links between water and energy. The keynote speaker will be Professor Paul Bishop, Associate Dean of Research at the University of Rhode Island.
Lead organizers include Ph.D. students Paul Noël and Majid Shafiee-Jood and master’s student Andrew Rehn, all members of Illinois Water Resources Association student chapter; CEE Assistant Professor Ashlynn Stillwell; and CEE Adjunct Associate Professor Yu-Feng Forrest Lin, a hydrogeologist at the Illinois State Geological Survey Prairie Research Institute. Other organizers include students from CEE’s cross-disciplinary programs Sustainable and Resilient Infrastructure Systems and Energy-Water-Environment Sustainability; CEE’s Environmental Hydrology and Hydraulic Engineering program; students from Agricultural and Consumer Economics; students from Agricultural and Biological Engineering; and students from Engineers Without Borders.
Registration is free and open to all. For more information and to register, visit the Illinois Water Day website.
