The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Illinois is proud to offer MS degrees fully online that provide professional and academic students the flexibility to specialize and upskill in their chosen field of expertise. Our degree program, consistently ranked among the top in the nation by U.S. News and World Report, unlocks limitless career opportunities through expansive and diverse course offerings in 10 specialty or cross-disciplinary areas, including construction management, sustainable and resilient infrastructure systems, and transportation engineering.
In addition to our online MS, students can also obtain a certificate in a specialized area within civil and environmental engineering.
Degree & Non-Degree Programs
Master of Science in Civil Engineering
- 36 credit hours (non-thesis)
- Can complete the degree in as little as one year with a full-time course load
- May take up to five years to complete the program
Master of Science in Environmental Engineering
- 36 credit hours (non-thesis)
- Can complete the degree in as little as one year with a full-time course load
- May take up to five years to complete the program
AI + CEE M.S. Track
- Optional add-on to either M.S. in Civil or Environmental Engineering and any specialty area
- 3 required core courses in Data Science (CEE 492; CEE 498MLC; CEE 498ISL)
- 36 credit hours (non-thesis)
CEE Online Certificate Program
- 12 credit hours (per certificate)
- Receive a certificate in a specialized area within civil and environmental engineering
- Each certificate requires students to complete three or four courses
