Get to know Doris Willmer
What is your favorite memory of your time at University of Illinois?
My favorite memory is the kindness shown to me by the students of the Chi Epsilon Student Chapter when they threw a special party welcoming me to Illinois’s campus after my transfer from another Big 10 school. I thought the party was a regular Chi Epsilon meeting until I walked into the student lounge at Newmark where a large “Welcome to Illinois-Chi Epsilon” sign greeted me. When I asked who the party was for, they told me it was for me as a new student in the civil school and a member of Chi Epsilon. I have never forgotten my surprise or the thoughtfulness of my colleagues.
What was your first job after you graduated?
I was one of the three transportation planners/designers that rerouted the existing bus system to feed into the proposed Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit System, completed the 10% conceptual design for each planned station, and estimated the bus, pedestrian and automobile traffic patronage routed to each station. It was a three year project that our team completed in one!
