Al-Qadi named for Roy W. Crum Award

CEE Professor Imad L. Al-Qadi has received the 2023 Roy W. Crum award from the Transportation Research Board (TRB). Named for the TRB’s former director, this prestigious award recognizes outstanding achievements in transportation research. 

Al-Qadi receives the award for his development of pavement material standards, analytics and technologies that have shaped the evolving landscape of resilient and sustainable transportation systems, as well as many other distinguished contributions to the field of transportation.

TRB specifically cited his transformative work in ground-penetrating radar, truck platooning, life cycle assessment, life cycle cost analysis, highway and airfield pavement sustainability, instrumentation, geosynthetics, advanced highway and airfield pavement modeling, asphaltic materials and recycling and binder rheology as having revolutionized modern-day approaches to pavement sensing, testing and modeling.

Al-Qadi is a Grainger Distinguished Chair in Engineering and the founding Director of the Illinois Transportation Center. He will receive the award as part of the TRB’s Annual Meeting on January 10, 2024, in Washington D.C.
