Zhao to help plan a Special Report on Climate Change and Cities for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change

Assistant Professor Lei Zhao was invited to help plan a Special Report on Climate Change and Cities for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is the United Nations body for assessing the science related to climate change. Only approximately 10 experts from the United States were invited to participate.

Zhao joined the CEE faculty in 2018. His research focuses on the physical and engineering processes in the Atmospheric Boundary Layer where most human activities and environmental systems are concentrated, with a particular focus on built surfaces and urban environments. Zhao is additionally affiliated with the National Center for Supercomputing Applications and the Institute for Sustainability, Energy and the Environment. He is a Fellow of the Center for Advanced Study.

The meeting to plan the report will take place in April 2024 in Riga, Latvia.
