Associate Professor Rosa Espinosa-Marzal has received one of the 2019 Dean’s Awards for Excellence in Research. The award is presented annually by the College of Engineering in recognition of outstanding research during the past year.
Motivated by the grand challenges in engineering, specifically those related to engineering better medicine, clean water access and energy storage technologies for sustainable energy sources, Espinosa-Marzal’s research focuses on understanding the fundamentals of soft matter interfaces required to design novel materials and interfaces for a wide range of applications.
Espinosa-Marzal joined the CEE at Illinois faculty in 2013. She holds a BEng. Degree in Mechanical Engineering (Universidad Politecnica de Valencia, Spain), and a Ph.D. in engineering/materials (Institute of Materials, Physics and Chemistry of Buildings, Hamburg University of Technology, Germany, 2004). She has been recognized with several research honors in addition to the Dean’s Award, including CAS Associate, NCSA Fellow, DFG Early Career and DAAD Fellowship.
The College of Engineering will honor Espinosa-Marzal and other awardees at the Engineering Faculty Awards Ceremony April 29, 2019 at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications auditorium with a reception following.
