Nancy Lawrence Boyer Merit Scholarship
Fuhrmann Engineering friends established this scholarship in 2021. Nancy Lawrence Boyer was a 1986 engineering graduate of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. Nancy’s engineering career was
rooted in the private sector before she started her own company, Boyer Engineering in 1995. As one of the very few women-owned businesses in Springfield, Ill., Nancy became a very successful business woman. She loved boating and scuba diving and all outdoor activities before she lost her long battle with breast cancer. She was a dedicated wife and mother of three.
In honor of her devoted service to her engineering career and medical hardship, this scholarship was established to encourage outstanding female civil engineering students who exemplify perseverance thru a medical adversity or hardship. Other factors that may be considered are the amount of leadership exhibited and participation in and support for civic involvement for the advancement of female entrepreneurship. Preference is given to students in the National Society of Black Engineers or Society of Women Engineers.
