Biography

After receiving his M.S. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in August 1973, Thomas A. Broz joined Bechtel Corporation’s Los Angeles Regional Office. Over the next 19 years Broz progressed from a structural design engineer to a structural engineering group leader to a multi-discipline project engineer overseeing all technical disciplines and finally to a project manager handling the design, procurement and construction of projects. These projects included nuclear power plants constructed in the USA, Japan, Taiwan and Spain, and some very unique projects built to help advance the USA’s pursuit of space flight and interplanetary travel.

For the past 21 years of his career, Broz has focused on public facilities with an emphasis on the seismic retrofit and adaptive reuse of those facilities. Many of these projects have received awards by various professional engineering and construction organizations for their achievements in design and construction. Throughout his career, Broz has evolved into a Project Manager capable of taking any complex, multi-discipline project from “cradle-to-grave” while at the same time continuing to be an active “hands-on” engineer who has never lost sight of his technical roots as a structural engineer.

Broz is a licensed Professional Engineer, Civil Engineer and Structural Engineer in California and several other states.  He is a Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers and has received numerous awards including the 1984 CE Young Alumnus Award, ASCE Orange County Branch Civil Engineer of the Year Award and the Orange County Engineering Council Distinguished Engineering Merit Award. In his spare time he has coached youth soccer and been a Boy Scout Scoutmaster for many years.
