Konar is 2024 AGU Macelwane Medal recipient

CEE Associate Professor Megan Konar won the AGU James B. Macelwane Medal for recognition of her significant contributions to Earth and space science. 

AGU, the world's largest Earth and space science association, celebrates individuals and teams through its annual Honors and Recognition program for their accomplishments in research, education, science communication, and outreach. These honorees have transformed understanding of the world, impacted everyday lives, improved communities and contributed to solutions for a sustainable future. 

Konar joined the CEE faculty in 2013. She earned both her M.S. and Ph.D in civil and environmental engineering from  Princeton University, an M.Sc. in Water Science, Policy, and Management from the University of Oxford, and a B.S. in Conservation and Resource Studies from the University of California at Berkeley. Konar’s previous awards and honors include the List of Teachers Ranked as Excellent, NSF CAREER award, AGU Hydrologic Sciences Section Early Career Award, and Walter L. Huber Civil Engineering Research Prize.

“I am honored and humbled to receive the Macelwane Medal.” Konar said. “I share this award with all of my wonderful students, colleagues, and collaborators over the years. This award gives us a boost of confidence that we are doing high quality research on important societal questions. It inspires us to keep pushing the research forward.”

Konar joins a distinguished group of scientists, leaders and communicators recognized by AGU for advancing science. Each honoree reflects AGU's vision for a thriving, sustainable and equitable future supported by scientific discovery, innovation and action. 

Konar will be recognized at AGU24, which will convene more than 25,000 attendees from over 100 countries in Washington, D.C. and online everywhere on 9-13 December 2024. Reflecting the theme 'What's Next for Science' at AGU24, the Honors Reception will recognize groundbreaking achievements that illustrate science's continual advancement, inspiring the AGU community with their stories and successes.
