Four once-in-a-lifetime engineering projects—from moving a lighthouse to moving nuclear reactor pressure vessels—will be highlighted in a lunchtime presentation when CEE alumnus W. Charles Greer Jr. (BS 71, MS 73) visits Oct. 25 as CEE’s Engineer in Residence.

Greer is Senior Vice President and Director of Quality Assurance for AMEC Environment & Infrastructure, Inc. (AMEC) in Atlanta, Ga. He has worked on a broad range of civil engineering projects across the U.S. and abroad. While on campus, he will give his lunchtime presentation, “Once-in-a-Lifetime Project Every 10 Years,” hold office hours with students and meet with faculty.

The Engineer in Residence program was developed in an effort to bring accomplished alumni back to campus to interact with students and faculty.

Greer’s lunchtime seminar is open to all, and pizza will be provided. Click here to attend the lunchtime presentation and/or to schedule office hours. Office hours will be held in the morning, and will be reserved on a first-come, first-served basis.

Greer was the C. C. Wiley Award Winner in 1972 while at Illinois and was named Engineer of the Year by the Georgia Society of Professional Engineers in 1987 in recognition of his technical and professional accomplishments. He serves on numerous national and international technical committees and has been an invited speaker for the Mack-Blackwell Transportation Center Distinguished Lecture Series at the University of Arkansas in 2001 and the Kirlin Distinguished Seminar Series at the University of Maryland in 2011.
