Professor and Head Amr S. Elnashai has been appointed to the University Engineering Advisory Committee of the University of Hong Kong (HKU). The committee promotes cooperation between the university and industry in the field of engineering, advises the vice-chancellor on changing industrial needs, and promotes seminars on industrial development and engineering education in Hong Kong.
Elnashai was recommended for the appointment by Weng Cho Chew, Dean of Engineering at the University of Hong Kong, and a former faculty member of the University of Illinois’ Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Elnashai will serve a term of three years, ending in spring of 2014.
“I have a keen interest in forging close links between academia and industry, and hope to help HKU in articulating its message to potential industrial partners,” Elnashai said. “I also look forward to learning from HKU's vast experience in academic administration and faculty-industry relations, and bringing back to Illinois best HK practice.”
Elnashai is the William J. and Elaine F. Hall Endowed Chair in Civil and Environmental Engineering and a Fellow of the United Kingdom Royal Academy of Engineering. He is Director and Chair of the College of Engineering Council on Global Engineering Initiatives.
