Garcia receives IAHR Honorary Membership

Professor Marcelo Garcia has been awarded Honorary Membership in the International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research.

Marcelo GarciaProfessor Marcelo Garcia has been awarded Honorary Membership in the International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR). The award will be presented at the Opening Ceremony of the 40th IAHR World Congress to be held in Vienna, Austria, in August 2023. 

The IAHR Honorary Membership award is the highest honor bestowed by the association on an individual. It is given in recognition of outstanding career contributions to the field of hydro-environment engineering and for exemplary service to IAHR.

Garcia has been on the CEE at Illinois faculty since 1990, where he is the M.T. Geoffrey Yeh Endowed Chair in Civil Engineering and Director of the Ven Te Chow Hydrosystems Laboratory. His current research interests are in fluvial hydraulics; sedimentation hazards, riverine-deltaic morphodynamics, dam safety, engineering with nature and history of Roman aqueducts.
