CEE celebrates Grad Student Appreciation Week

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering celebrated our grad students for the 2026 Graduate Student Appreciate Week, including Bayezid Baten, a winner in this year's Research Live! competition.

Research Live! is an annual event hosted by the Graduate College and part of Graduate Student Appreciation Week.  It includes a fun, fast-paced competition that celebrates graduate student research at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and demonstrates how Illinois graduate students are pushing the boundaries of what we know and what we imagine possible. 

On Tuesday, April 7, nine finalists presented their amazing research in three minutes or less at the 2026 Research Live! showcase and Bayezid received special recognition for his presentation, "The Secret to Stronger Concrete was Hiding in Plain Sight".

CEE staff and faculty organized a number of events throughout the week including a Grad Appreciation Breakfast on the Kavita and Lalit Bahl Smart Bridge with special giveaways and a Geotech and Transportation Luncheon in the Yeh Center.
