Benito Mariñas, former Head of the CEE department and the Ivan Racheff Professor of Environmental Engineering, has been named a 2020 Fellow of the Association of Environmental Engineering and Science Professors (AEESP).
The recognition is provided by AEESP to members who have demonstrated the highest levels of teaching, research and/or service in the environmental engineering or science professorate and who have 15 or more years of continued membership with the organization.
Mariñas joined the faculty of CEE at Illinois in 1995. He was Interim Head of the department from 2014-2015 and Head from 2015 until February 2020. Mariñas has research interests in various mechanistic aspects of chemical and ultraviolet light disinfection processes and membrane technologies for the particular application of controlling waterborne pathogens. He has taught graduate and undergraduate courses covering various fundamental, laboratory experimentation and design aspects of environmental engineering and science with particular emphasis in physico-chemical treatment processes for water quality control.
The 2020 Fellows will be recognized during the 2021 AEESP Research and Education Conference on the campus of Washington University in St. Louis July 13-15, 2021.
