Two CEE students selected as Knights of St. Patrick

Civil and Environmental Engineering students Leah Courtney and Abby Culloton are among the eleven students selected as 2023 Knights of St. Patrick by the Grainger College of Engineering. These students are recognized for demonstrated leadership, excellence in character, and outstanding contribution to the college and its students. The Knight of St. Patrick is a prestigious honor awarded by The Grainger College of Engineering annually to acknowledge students for their academic excellence and extracurricular involvement.

Leah Courtney

Leah Courtney is a senior studying Civil and Environmental Engineering with a minor in Spanish. Her primary area of study is Water Resources Engineering with a secondary in Environmental Engineering. 

Courtney is currently the President of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE), for which she previously served as an Outreach Co-Director. Last semester, she was the CEE Lead Engineering Learning Assistant (ELA) for ENG 100. Courtney serves as a Women in Engineering (WIE) ambassador, Student Coordinator for WIE Orientation and CEE Student Ambassador, and is a member of Chi Epsilon Honor Society.  This past summer, she interned at Burns & McDonnell in their water global practice working on startup pump hydraulic calculations for municipalities. She will be returning this summer to work at Burns & McDonnell full-time as an assistant civil engineer.

Abby Culloton
Abby Culloton

Abby Culloton has a primary concentration in Water Resources Engineering and a secondary in Energy-Water-Environment Sustainability. She has also earned the Certificate in Environmental Writing. Culloton will graduate in December 2023.

On campus, Culloton is the Secretary for SWE, where she coordinates section awards and manages the leadership certificate program. She is a 2022 recipient of the SWE Outstanding Collegiate Member Award, which is a national recognition presented to only ten SWE members annually. Culloton is a CEE Student Ambassador and recently served as the Head ELA for ENG 100, where she provided support to all ELAs and taught a section of ENG 100. This past summer, Culloton interned with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Rock Island, Ill. in their hydrology and hydraulics division. She plans to return to intern there again this summer.
