Professor Mani Golparvar-Fard has been named a fellow by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).
ASCE members elected to fellow status have made celebrated contributions and developed creative solutions that have enhanced lives. Fellows must also have a minimum of 10 years of responsible charge as a P.E. or P.L.S./L.S./P.S. license. Just 3% of ASCE Society members hold this prestigious honor.
Golparvar-Fard has a long history of work with ASCE. He was on the editorial board of the first gold open access journal launched by ASCE, ASCE OPEN: Multidisciplinary Journal of Civil Engineering, a publication which presents an all-encompassing civil engineering perspective on the built and natural environment, and also serves on the editorial boards of several other journals, including the ASCE Journal of Computing in Civil Engineering and the ASCE Journal of Construction Engineering and Management. He has served as the chair on several ASCE committees including Construction Research Council and Data Sensing and Analytics.
A CEE at Illinois professor and Faculty Entrepreneurial Fellow, Golparvar-Fard earned his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering and MS in Computer Science from U. of I. in 2010, respectively. He returned to campus and joined CEE faculty as an assistant professor in December 2012.
Golparvar-Fard co-leads a new strategic initiative at U. of I. to establish a Center on AI in the Built Environment. He is also the director of the Engineering Faculty Leadership Forum (EFLF) for The Grainger College of Engineering. Throughout his career, Golparvar-Fard has collaborated with numerous national and international construction companies, working on iconic projects in the United States, Japan, and Saudi Arabia. He holds numerous patents and is currently involved with Reconstruct Inc., an early-stage technology company that received $30 million in venture capital funding. Reconstruct Inc. was founded based on the technology transfer of the outcomes of Golparvar-Fard’s research projects.
In recognition of his contributions, Grainger Engineering awarded him the College Award for Excellence in Translational Research in 2025 and the Excellence in Research Award in 2016. Golparvar-Fard was also awarded the 2026 Campus Award for Excellence in Graduate & Professional Teaching by the U. of I. for his sustained excellence and innovation in graduate or professional teaching and contributions to graduate or professional learning beyond classroom instruction.
