The Alumni Award for Distinguished Service recognizes exceptional alumni from The Grainger College of Engineering who have earned professional distinction through outstanding leadership, contributions to the field of engineering, creativity, and entrepreneurship; as well as service to society, the professional community, and to the department, college, or university. CEE alumnus Rashod Johnson (BS 00) has been named a 2026 recipient of The Grainger College of Engineering's Alumni Award for Distinguished Service. The award recognizes exceptionally alumni from The Grainger College of Engineering who  have earned professional distinction through outstanding leadership, contributions to the field of engineering, creativity, and entrepreneurship; as well as service to society, the professional community, and to the department, college, or university. 

Johnson received the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Civil and Environmental Engineering Alumni Association in 2025.

Grainger Engineering will honor the 2026 awardees with a celebratory event held on March 27, 2026. Along with a dinner and awards ceremony held in the the evening, the day will include a Panel Discussion with the recipients, offering a conversation about their experiences, lessons learned, and valuable advice for achieving success. The discussion will feature a hybrid format, held in-person at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications on the U of I campus, as well as on Zoom. For in-person attendees, there will be a light lunch provided in the NCSA lobby following the panel.
