Spencer chosen as inaugural guest for ASCE Fireside Chat series

CEE Professor Bill Spencer was chosen as the inaugural guest of the American Society of Civil Engineers new Fireside Chat Series. Hosted by the ASCE’s Engineering Mechanics Institute, the conversation allowed for early-career professionals, students and seasoned researchers to ask questions and engage with Spencer, who is widely regarded as an expert in the field of structural control.

During the chat, Spencer shared insights into his career, background and ideas on where the future might lie. Some of these stories included the unexpected inspiration that led him to first consider a career as a professor, as well as his views on mentorship and the ways AI is changing the landscape, both in his primary field of structural control and across education as a whole.
