The Grainger College of Engineering at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign Engineering Council Awards Committee has selected  CEE Assistant Professor Eleftheria Kontou as one of their Outstanding Advisors of the year, an award given to faculty and staff members who exemplify excellence and dedication in support of students and their efforts.

Every year Grainger Engineering hosts the Student Awards Ceremony recognizing select students for their outstanding leadership, academic achievement and character.  They also take this opportunity to recognize those faculty and staff members chosen by students for going above and beyond in support of their success, including the Engineering Council Outstanding Advisors Award. Recognized as the top 10% of engineering advisors selected by their students, the Grainger Engineering faculty and staff selected for this award exemplify excellence and dedication in support of their students’ efforts.

Kontou joined the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in 2019. Her research focuses on planning sustainable transportation systems. Four of her graduate students from her Research Group recently won the second place in the 2026 Gies SCM Conference Supply Chain Management (SCM) Case Competition titled "Beyond Dollars: Social responsibility in designing a US Freight Network".

This year's Awards Ceremony will be held Saturday, May 2, 2026 in the Grainger Auditorium in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Building in Urbana, Ill.
