CEE at Illinois Ph.D. student Hannah Lohman has been selected as a 2023 John A. Knauss Marine Policy Fellow. This prestigious fellowship provides a unique experience to chosen graduate students interested in ocean, coastal and Great Lakes resources and related policy decisions. Lohman will be working with the Climate Adaptation Partnerships team within the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration OAR Climate Program Office in Washington D.C. She will be a key part of the program’s effort to expand society’s regional capacity to adapt to climate impacts in the U.S.

Lohman is working towards a Ph.D. in environmental engineering with a focus on energy, water, environment, and sustainability. She has completed a Certificate of Excellence in Sustainable Management and Technology and is currently working as a research assistant within the CEE department.

“It is truly an honor to be selected as a Knauss Fellow and to represent the Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant as an environmental engineer,” Lohman said. “I am excited to expand my expertise, outside of engineering, to tackle global climate challenges and develop myself as a leader in the science policy space.”

Lohman, who earned her B.S. (2016) and M.S. (2016) at CEE, will complete her Ph.D. in December. Her fellowship is sponsored by Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant.
